I am pleased to share with you today a great song called Grey Skies.  It comes from one of the most exciting bands I’ve seen live, the Two Funerals.  When I saw them live last November the band introduced this song by saying something to the effect of:  “This song is about old guys who write songs about pussy.”  I ran into one of the band members at a local eatery called Bagel Czar, which prior served in many different carnations as a punk club, which operated under the moniker of the Nanci Raygun before closing and becoming today’s Bagel Czar.  After awkwardly approaching her she invited me to come see them play at the Bagel Czar last week.  Sadly, I was too sick to come out and see them play but I will certainly try to see them again soon.  Anyways, Cottage Records put out the record.  I was lucky enough to get a test press number 22 out of 50.  The 7” also has a great song that deals with the tragic loss of Ben, Cayce and Joe who died in a car accident back in early Summer 2007.  It was a very sad event that affected a lot of people in the Richmond underground music community and even more people beyond that.  Ben played music under the name of Mancub.  I was lucky enough to get to see him play a few times and get to casual hang out with him and Cayce during a few shows too.  While I was not extremely close to Ben I still miss seeing him at shows and seeing him play.  I will never forget his awesome Dead Milkmen covers or his friendly sense of humor.  As it says on the back of the 7” cover “for ben, joe + cayce, we miss you!”  If you get a chance I highly recommend seeing the Two Funerals live and to get your hands on some of their recordings, I’m sure you’ll be glad that you did.
